Strictly Come Dancing confirms line-up with five professional dancers departing

The BBC has confirmed that five members of the professional line-up on Strictly Come Dancing are leaving the show as preparations begin for this year’s series. Among those departing is Karen Hauer, the show’s longest-serving female professional dancer, who has been part of Strictly for 14 years.

Departing professional dancers

  • Karen Hauer announced her departure in March, stating that it was the right time to close this chapter and take on new projects. She reflected on how Strictly changed her life both as a performer and as a person. Hauer mentioned that she will miss many aspects of the show, including standing in front of the judges. She is set to appear as a dance teacher in the comedy play Stepping Out starting in August.
  • Gorka Marquez is leaving after ten years on the show. He did not have a celebrity partner last year due to scheduling conflicts related to his role as a judge on the Spanish version of Strictly. Marquez is also known for his relationship with former contestant Gemma Atkinson, with whom he has two children.
  • Nadiya Bychkova joined Strictly in 2017 and expressed excitement about focusing on new projects and spending more time with her daughter.
  • Luba Mushtuk joined in 2018 and said it is time to follow her dreams beyond the show, looking forward to what the future holds.
  • Michelle Tsiakkas joined in 2022 but did not have a celebrity partner last year. She expressed gratitude for her experiences on the show and wished her Strictly family all the best.

Returning professionals and show updates

The BBC confirmed that 15 of the 20 professional dancers from last year will return for the upcoming series. The returning professionals include Amy Dowden, who faced health challenges recently but is set to come back.

Judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton Du Beke will all return for the new series. However, there is no update yet on who will replace Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly as hosts.

The BBC described the new line-up as a “dynamic and world class roster” that will be joined by fresh talent from the international dance world, promising an exciting mix of experience and showmanship.

The celebrity contestant line-up for this year’s series is expected to be announced before the show begins, which is anticipated to be in September.
