Michael Carrick Confirms Casemiro’s Departure from Manchester United
Interim manager Michael Carrick has confirmed that Casemiro has firmly decided to leave Manchester United this summer after four years at the club. The Brazilian midfielder recently scored in United’s 2-1 victory against Brentford, but Carrick ruled out any reversal of the decision.
Casemiro’s Impact and Departure
Casemiro’s header in the 11th minute of the match marked his ninth Premier League goal this season, making him the club’s second-highest scorer behind Benjamin Sesko. Despite his impressive performances throughout the season, Casemiro had previously announced his intention to leave Manchester United in June.
Michael Carrick described the situation as “pretty clear” from both the club’s and the player’s perspectives. He emphasized how much playing for United means to Casemiro and noted that the clarity of the decision has helped supporters understand the situation.
“Credit to him because he’s given absolutely everything and had some big moments for us, so all round it’s quite a nice direction for it to be taken,” Carrick said.
Manchester United’s Current Position and Future Goals
Following the win against Brentford, Manchester United sits third in the Premier League and requires just two more points to secure Champions League qualification. However, Carrick stressed that the team should not stop there.
He said the team aims to finish as high as possible in the league and continue accumulating points to extend their season beyond qualification.
“Champions League is one thing, but it’s not something we should be celebrating either. We want to be finishing high up the league and trying to get more points so our season doesn’t get to a close when that happens,” Carrick explained.
Brentford’s Perspective on the Match
Brentford’s manager Keith Andrews expressed disappointment with the result but praised his team’s performance. He noted that although United started stronger and scored first, Brentford managed to settle and showed bravery throughout the game.
Andrews said, “I was really happy with how we performed overall. United started better than us, dangerous from corner kicks and got the lead. We calmed down after that, got to grips with the game, the occasion, the opposition better. The bravery of the players was really impressive.”
