Running a 24/7 Celebrity Fan Page Means Constant Sleeplessness

Fan accounts and celebrity update pages have become a dominant presence on social media platforms such as X and TikTok. These pages provide continuous updates about the lives of popular celebrities, often operating around the clock. Running a 7 celebrity fan page requires constant attention and dedication, leading to sleepless nights for those involved.

The Work Behind 7 Celebrity Fan Pages

Jay, a 25-year-old Canadian and researcher for the social media account Buzzing Pop, describes the demanding nature of maintaining a fan page. Buzzing Pop, which has 250,000 followers on X, posts nonstop news and gossip about major celebrities worldwide. Jay explains, “I feel like we have no sleep – we’re at this 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We’re always posting.”

The content shared by Buzzing Pop includes a wide range of updates, such as videos of Lady Gaga helping a fallen photographer on the red carpet, lists of Justin Bieber albums returning to the charts, and viral podcast appearances by artists like Zara Larsson. Jay emphasizes the passion behind their work despite the intensity: “We’re always keeping up – it’s crazy but we love it.”

These fan pages cover everything from glamorous red carpet events to small details like which celebrities have unfollowed others or streaming statistics for new singles. Jay notes that while they do not consider themselves traditional journalists, they feel a responsibility to their large audience. The team sources information from reputable media outlets such as Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter, but they also receive anonymous tips which they carefully verify for credibility.

Popularity and Impact of Celebrity Update Accounts

Accounts like Buzzing Pop and Pop Crave, which boasts over three million followers on X, aggregate showbiz news and updates. Another popular page, Deux Moi, provides near-hourly celebrity gossip to more than two million followers on Instagram. Many pages focus on individual celebrities, TV shows, films, or music artists, with some dedicated to stars like Zendaya, Selena Gomez, or BTS, attracting millions of followers.

For example, Andrei Ciprian, 28, runs a Taylor Swift updates page with nearly two million followers across X, Instagram, and TikTok. He began the page to document Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, spending up to six hours daily posting about surprise songs, special guests, VIP attendees, and costume changes. Even after the tour ended, Andrei continues to post daily updates while balancing shifts at his hotel job. He says, “I love her, and I like to make sure her fans are updated with everything.”

The engagement on these accounts is significant, with posts often receiving thousands or millions of views, likes, and comments. While most posts use publicly available information such as interview clips, photoshoots, and social media screenshots, some accounts have been criticized for intruding on celebrities’ private lives.

Concerns About Privacy and Fan Obsession

Dr. Georgia Carroll, an expert in fandom and fan engagement, explains that social media update accounts have transformed what was once niche fan behavior into a mainstream and intense phenomenon. Previously, small groups of fans might gather outside celebrities’ homes or frequented locations, but now speculation about stars’ whereabouts is broadcast widely and instantly.

Celebrity publicist Claire Powell, with over 30 years in the industry, highlights the challenges this creates for stars. She notes that some update accounts post videos of celebrities walking in public, shopping, or dining, and share selfies and location details. Powell says clients often feel overwhelmed, stating, “I step out my front door and everyone’s following me.”

Powell contrasts this with traditional paparazzi relationships, which she describes as more mutual and transactional, where both media and celebrities benefit from coverage. In contrast, some newer forms of fan surveillance lack this balance.

Powell also suggests that the intense demand for constant celebrity updates stems from fans feeling less personal connection with stars today. In the past, fans had more opportunities for physical interaction through signings and intimate shows, which are less common now.

Motivations and Rewards for Fan Page Creators

While platforms like X and TikTok offer financial rewards to verified accounts with high engagement, many fan page creators do not earn money from their efforts. Andrei Ciprian shares that he hopes to work for Taylor Swift one day but currently does not receive income from his posts. Jay and his Buzzing Pop team, consisting of five people, do get paid but mainly pursue this work out of passion, balancing it with other jobs.

Jay emphasizes their commitment to neutrality and informative content, and he takes pride in interactions with artists such as Tate McRae, SZA, and Ariana Grande. Dr. Carroll notes that running these accounts can grant creators status and access to celebrities, providing fans a way to feel closer to their idols and have their fandom acknowledged.

Regarding whether fans are more obsessed now than in the past, Powell believes fan behavior remains consistent but has evolved with technology. She recalls fans in earlier decades engaging in intense behaviors such as blocking cars or tracking hotels, but now fans interact in faster, more immediate ways through social media.
